THEME: CREATING SAFE SPACES FOR WOMEN'S EFFECTIVE AND EQUAL PARTICIPATION IN THE 2024 GENERAL ELECTION.
Women Peace and Security (WPS) is a global agenda and framework that focuses on the protection and inclusion of women in peace and security efforts, especially in conflict and post-conflict settings. It recognizes the disproportionate impact of armed conflicts on women and seeks to address the unique challenges they face. The WPS agenda is based on several United Nations Security Council resolutions, with Resolution 1325 (adopted in 2000) serving as the foundational document.
The conference will highlight the importance of ensuring that women in South Sudan have the opportunity to engage in the political process without fear, discrimination, or intimidation. The 2024 General Election presents a critical opportunity to promote gender equality and women's empowerment in the country's political landscape.This theme underscores the significance of gender equality and women's participation in the democratic process, emphasizing the need for creating a political environment where women can freely engage and contribute to the future of South Sudan.
During the conference the following objectives are going to be tackled;
- To Discuss the election process and the recently passed election bills.
- Discuss the ongoing process of the Constitution making process.
- Discus about women civic spaces at the grassroots level.
- Discuss the recommendations of the previous Peace events.
