Background of YWCA

YOUNG WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION OF SOUTH SUDAN

YWCA South Sudan was as established in 1997 as a women’s group in the local Anglican Church of Yambio town in Western Equatorial region of South Sudan.

The YWCA South Sudan has seven branches, Yambio, Nzara, Tambura, Maridi, Mundri West, Wau and Juba in former Central Equatoria State. The national YWCA of South Sudan headquarter is situated in Yambio town with coordination office in Juba and has five thematic programs focusing on Improving protection and security for girls, women, Men and Children, Enhanced women’s and girls’ economic empowerment, Leadership capacity of young women and Strengthening institutional governance. In July 2007, the YWCA of Sudan was officially affiliated and became a full member of the World YWCA, and YWCA is governed by an elected board who are the policy and decision maker of the organization.
